Robbing Japanese tourist: Trio to know fate July 19

Kota Kinabalu: Three locals, one of them a woman, charged with robbing a Japanese tourist who uploaded footage and photos of the alleged incident in his Facebook account, will know their fate on July 19.Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz fixed the date for jobless Syamsiah Lanasimun, 29, fishmonger Soh Ching Ten, 33, and labourer Hazroy Ismail, 20, when the defence closed its case Wednesday after calling three witnesses.The trio are accused of gang-robbing Takashi Ishihara, 34, of RM1,500, Yen10,000 (RM369.60) and US$65 (RM286.23).ADVERTISEMENT They allegedly committed the crime on the Asian Body Building Federation Vice President at 3pm on Jan 5 at a lodging house in Kg Air, here.The offence under Section 395 of Penal Code provides for a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping on conviction.The prosecution had called six witnesses during the hearing.Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Zuhaili Mat Rani conducted the prosecution while counsel Intan Timor defended them.ADVERTISEMENT In another case, a 31-year-old man was given a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) from four charges of having four types of drugs.Sessions Court Judge Ainul Shahrin Mohamad gave the DNAA to Tang Chee Siong after the raiding officer who was supposed to testify during the continuation of trial was absent for two days.
