Grateful for the security
Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman reminded communities to remain vigilant and give their support and cooperation to the security forces in this time of peace."We must remember. The problems of the world exist even in peace. There are still incidents happening around us.

"Such as slander against individuals carried out via social media and also the shooting of the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) politician in Miri, Sarawak recently," he said.

Musa was referring to the shooting of Bill Kayong who contested the Bekenu seat in the recent Sarawak polls.

He said although he was a member of the opposition, the incident also saddened members of the ruling coalition.

Speaking at the handing over of Raya cookies and goodies to security forces,he said it is due to the contributions of the security forces that many Malaysians now experience peace and prosperity.

"It is because of the security forces that many of us can initiate good ties and relations among each other.

They are guarding our houses, borders and country even when Malaysians go on holidays.

"This is also the reason why we can celebrate rousing occasions like Hari Raya or Christmas," he said.

Musa said Malaysians may not be able repay the contributions made by the security forces but only offer them prayers and kind gestures, like offering cookies and goodies during festive seasons.

Also present at the event were Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Abdul Rashid Harun, Fire and Rescue Department Director Nordin Fauzi, Prisons Department Director Suria Idris, Royal Malaysian Navy Region 2 Admiral Datuk Khairul Anuar Yahya, Airforce Region 2 Major General Datuk Mohd Shabre Hussein, Joint Staff 2 Chief Colonel Halimin Pandi and Esscom Commander Datuk Wan Abdul Bari Wan Abdul.

Others include the State Cabinet, State Assembly Speaker Syed Abas Syed Ali, Sabah Federal Secretary Datuk Borhan Dolah and State Secretary Tan Sri Sukarti Wakiman, as well as heads of the State Government Linked Companies.

Later during the event, Abdul Rashid announced that police will remain on guard throughout the Hari Raya holidays, saying only 10 per cent of the 6,000 regular police officers were given leave this upcoming festive season.

He also called on those who will be going back to their hometown this Hari Raya to inform the nearest police station on their departure so the police can keep watch over their property, and reminded them to adhere to traffic regulations while on the road.
