Confederation Cup kicks off June 29

Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Confederation Cup will witness a battle between main Sabahan teams in the Malaysian League and the State Sukma squad.The championship organised by KDM Malaysia will be staged at Likas Stadium from June 29 until July 2.

KDM Malaysia Youth Chief Henry Saimpon said the competition will kick off with a match between KDMM FC and DYS FC on June 29.

The second match will see an encounter between the State senior team and Sabah Sukma team on June 30.

"The winners for the first and second matches will qualify for the finals while the two losing teams will be competing for the third and fourth places.

"The finals will be held on July 2 while the third place playoff will be on July 1," he said.

According to him, the competition offers cash prize of more than RM30,000 with the champions walking away with RM15,000 and the first runner-up will receive RM8,000.

Third and fourth place winners will win RM5,000 and RM2,000, respectively. Other prizes are also given to the Best Team (Fair play) which will bring home RM15,000 while the top scorer will win RM500.

Henry said the championship provides an excellent avenue for teams in the State in terms of preparation where the senior team will face the remainder of the second round of the Premier League while KDMM FC and DYS FC will be in action for the second round of the FAM Cup.

"The State Sukma team is also in their final preparation for Sukma 2016 in Sarawak next month."

Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan is expected to attend the prize giving ceremony.

The public, especially football fans are encouraged to watch the inaugural competition. All matches will start at 9pm.
