Gambling: Six women  among 15 detained
Kota Kinabalu: Six women were among 15 people arrested during a five-day operation against illegal gaming activities here. The "Ops Dadu" operation ended on June 19 with raids conducted in six locations, namely Segama, Jalan Pantai, Sulaman Sentral, Kg Air, Bandaran Berjaya and Damai.

City Police Chief ACP M. Chandra, in a media conference here Friday, said those detained comprised 13 people involved in offering illegal lottery tickets and "Wah Hui" gaming and two customers.

He said those nabbed are aged between 20 and 58 and comprised 14 locals and one Indonesian.

Several items believed to be used for gambling purposes, including RM1,861, were seized.

A total of 46 people, including 21 women, aged between 18 and 70, have been arrested and RM10,843 seized during 29 raids conducted in the city from January to June 22.

In a separate case, four men aged between 20 and 39 have been arrested during a 10-day "Ops Soga" conducted from June 13 here.

The operation was aimed at eradicating betting on the Euro 2016 football in the city and was conducted in four locations, namely Salut Commercial Centre in Manggatal, Lintas Plaza, Kg Air and Damai.

Various items such as handphones, sheets of paper containing names of football teams and bets, including RM829, were seized.

Chandra said the case will be investigated under Section 6(3) of the Betting Act 1963 and those found guilty can face up to five years in jail or fine amounting to RM200,000, or both, on conviction.

He advised people against taking part in gambling activities and said there will be no compromise on those caught engaging in such activities.
