Kota Kinabalu: Politeknik Kota Kinabalu marked another historic accomplishment when two of its innovation products clinched two gold medals and two special awards at the 2nd World Invention Innovation Contest (WiC 2016) held in Seoul, Korea recently.Politeknik KK, which represented Politeknik Malaysia, put forward its winning products entitled PIC18FMicrocontroller Trainer by lecturer Mohd Ismi Aswaly and PLOWBOT – Self-located Mobile Robot for Soil Plowing and Levelling invented by three electrical engineering students.

The first won a gold medal award and special award of the World Inventors Association, while the latter won a gold medal award and Special Award of the Korea Invention Academy.

According to Ismi, the sole representative from Politeknik Kota Kinabalu, the students' PLOWBOT invention received much attention from interested investors especially from the President of the World Inventors Association, Dr. Soung-Mo Hong.

"We have received some positive feedback from interested investors from Canada and Korea, and it was an honour when the President of World Inventors Association himself showed interest in our inventions. Hopefully more fruitful opportunities will follow suit after this", he said.

Meanwhile, the group leader who invented PLOWBOT, Tirinti Anak Segil said, they are very happy with the outcome of their product.

They did not expect their invention to get world level recognition.

"We are very grateful with the outcome and we are thankful to the management and lecturers of Politeknik KK for their support and efforts to get us this far," Tirinti added.

The two products have previously won national and international level competitions in separate events held last year and earlier this year.

Ismi's PIC Controller won the National Innovations On Teaching and Learning In Electrical Engineering (NiCTEE) 2015, while the students' PLOWBOT received a gold medal award and Special Engineering Invention Award in the International Festival Innovation on Green Technology (i_FINOG 2016) held in April this year.

Some 281 contestants from 13 countries participated in the two-day event.

Organised by the Asia Invention Association and Korea Invention News, the event is aimed at providing opportunities for students, inventors, innovators and research scientists to express their creativity and innovative ability through their novel ideas, thus contributing towards industrial and economic growth through their innovative inventions.
