Kota Kinabalu: Plans are underway to relocate at least four coastal villages in Kudat to a new resettlement which could accommodate up to 2,000 lots, with about 200 lots already distributed to qualified villagers. "We have done a census on all the coastal villages, namely Kg. Tanjung Kapor, Kg. Panaraban, Kg. Bahagia and Kg. Muhibah and plans to relocate squatters from these areas will be made through the Tanjung Kapor Community Leaders Development Unit," said Special Tasks Minister Datuk Teo Chee Kang.Teo who is Tanjung Kapor Assemblyman said a resettlement near Kg. Gumpa near the district has been identified however allocations are needed to prepare the site with infrastructures such as roads and electricity so that the site can be divided into lots and distributed to the villagers. ADVERTISEMENT "We are now in the process and more than 200 lots have been distributed through balloting," he said, adding that almost all have already built their houses on their lots. "However the huge number of squatters in Kudat requires us to need more allocations, hopefully we can get funds from either the State or Federal government so that more can be relocated," he said. He also hoped big companies would play their corporate social responsibility and assist the close to 1,000 fire victims affected by the latest fire which took place in Kg. Tanjung Kapor on Saturday. "This is sad, because many of the villagers are Muslims and this happened during the fasting month.ADVERTISEMENT "I have gone to the area to monitor and at the same time distributed funds to some 276 affected households who have registered so far. "Most of the fire victims are taking shelter at the futsal centre in the village, while the Civil Defence Department has also prepared cubicles to be distributed to them, but these are not enough, some have been placed temporarily at the village hall," he said.

"Last month, many were also made homeless when fire destroyed houses in Kg. Landung Ayang in Kudat, I think this is a challenge we have to address, especially for me as the Tanjung Kapor Assemblyman," he said. "I was made to understand that Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim will be presenting funds to fire victims affected by the fire in Kg. Landong Ayang and I hope he can also provide assistance to fire victims in the Kg. Tanjung Kapor," he said.
