Kota Kinabalu: Two houses were destroyed in a fire at Kg. Peringatan Petagas located some 50 metres away from the Petagas War Memorial Park here, on Monday.However nobody was reported hurt. "I was watching television when thick smoke coming from the window prompted me to look out," said Suhaibun Abdul Latif when met at the scene.

The 70-year-old who has stayed in the area since 1975, said he saw fire coming from his neighbours' house which was located just 50 metres from his house. "I heard a loud explosion coming from the house and immediately alerted my grandson who called for help," he said.
He said the fire had already started to spread to the second house by the time the firefighters arrived. "This is the second time fire took place in our village, the first was near the water village some years ago," he said.

A team from the Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue Station led by Hamsa Isnurdini stopped the fire from spreading to 10 other houses including a surau in the village.
