Man charged with raping 2 underaged ex-girlfriends

Kota Kinabalu: A 21-year-old man was charged in the Sessions Court on Monday with two counts of raping two underaged former girlfriends.Mohd Azhar Jeminos pleaded not guilty before Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim to both charges against him.On the first count, he is accused of raping a 16-year-old girl at 1.30pm on Aug 2, 2013 at a wooded area near a bus stop in Tuaran.

The offence under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping, on conviction.On the second count, Mohd Azhar allegedly raped another girl aged 15, at 11am in March, 2015 inside a hut in Kg Tajau, Tuaran.Mohd Azhar was released on a bail of RM10,000 with RM5,000 deposited in two local sureties on each charge and fixed July 27 for mention.The court also ordered Mohd Azhar to report to the Tuaran police station every week until the disposal of his case and warned him against communicating with the prosecution's witnesses.

Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Dinesh Raja objected to bail on the grounds that the alleged victims were Mohd Azhar's former girlfriends and thus he might tamper with them as well as other witnesses.However, counsel Ridzuan Borhan who represented Mohd Azhar asked the court to grant bail saying there was no reason for Mohd Azhar to disturb or communicate with the alleged victims since they were his former girlfriends.

Ridzuan also told the court that Mohd Azhar did not stay in the same area as the alleged victims.Meanwhile, in another court, 13 foreigners were jailed four and five months each for entering the State illegally.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
