Molest: Man gets 4 years and 5 strokes

Kota Kinabalu: A 32-year-old man was sentenced to four years' jail and ordered given five lashes of the cane for molesting an underaged girl.Laurel Melbi, who appeared before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun, informed the court that he wished to change his plea and admit to the charge.He admitted to committing the offence on a 10-year-old girl at 8am on Jan 27 on a hill at Kg Pondo in Gaya island.

Laurel was supposed to stand trial on Monday. He had committed an offence under Section 354 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to 10 years or fine or whipping or any two of such punishment on conviction. The court ordered Laurel to serve the imprisonment sentence from the date of his arrest on Jan 30.In the same court, another man was also charged with a similar offence.Jasme Amin, 43, is accused of molesting a woman in a hotel room in Penampang at 9.30pm on June 1.

The court set July 18 for mention and released Jasme on a bail of RM2,800 in two sureties with the condition that he report to the police station once a month and not approach the alleged victim.Meanwhile, seven people were jailed and fined for taking drugs.

Muhd Rasidi Abdullah, Achmad Daud, Rodi Salimin, Hiew Tze Yui, Mohd Asdrab Dasul, Azlan Shan Mohd Nasir and Anuar Udin admitted to committing the offence at separate locations here between Jan 28 and April 21.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
