Five motorists fined for having no driving licence

Kota Kinabalu: Five motorists were fined a total of RM3,600 by the Magistrate's Court here Monday for having no driving licence.Jackie Samuil, Nijar Kassim, Maximus Ting, Johny Sabdani and Shariffah Umairah Sharif Muhamad, aged between 19 and 37, pleaded guilty to committing the offence at various locations along Jalan Tun Fuad Stephens, Jalan Tuaran, Gaya Street and Jalan Sulaman between May 25 and June 19.Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus ordered Jackie and Nijar to pay a fine of RM800 or three weeks' jail each.

Maximus and Johny were fined RM700 or three weeks' jail while Shariffah was fined RM600 or three weeks' jail.The five had committed an offence under Section 26(1) of the Road Transport Act which carries a fine of between RM300 and RM2,000 or jail term of up to three months or both on conviction.Johny, Maximus and Shariffah were also found to have no insurance coverage while riding or driving their vehicle.Johny was fined RM400 or three weeks' jail while Maximus and Shariffah were fined RM300 or three weeks' jail each.

The offence under Section 90 of the Road Transport Act provides for a fine of between RM300 and RM2,000 or jail term of up to three months or both on conviction.Meanwhile, another motorist Mohd Ibrahim Amaran was ordered to pay a fine of RM2,500 or four months' jail for drink-driving.

Ibrahim had committed the offence at Jalan Laiman Diki here at 1.20pm on Sept 7, 2013.The offence under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 carries a fine of between RM1,000 and RM6,000 or jail of up to 12 months on conviction.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
