Special Olympics meet in S'kan July 27

Kota Kinabalu: A Special Olympics Track and Field Mini Meet will be held at Sandakan Sports Complex, on July 27.Special Olympics Malaysia (Sandakan Division) Chairman Taren Sunil Manoharan said the events for the meet will include 100m, 200m, 400m, 4x100m, 50m mixed walking and running events. There will also be standing long jump, softball throw and shot putt events.According to him, the events will be categorised into age-groups. Category A will be for those 22 years old and above, Category B for 16 to 21 years old, Category C for 13 to 15 years old and Category D for those whose ages range from 8 to 12 years old.

"As this Mini Meet is for the intellectually challenged, the job will be quite demanding for us. "However, my team and I are all ready for the task as we have had experience in handling such events in the past," he said in a statement, here, on Tuesday.The Mini Meet will be used as a guide to select a Sandakan team to take part in the State-level Special Olympics Track and Field Games scheduled to be held in Kudat from September 23-25.Taren Sunil called upon the business community as well as the public to support the meet.
