PETALING JAYA: Outgoing Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAB) CEO Christoph Mueller will be joining Dubai-based airline Emirates, reported a German business magazine recently.Manager Magazin, citing insiders, said the 54-year-old will be joining the airline as chief transformation officer, where he will be in charge of digitisation.

Mueller will be leaving MAB in September, barely two years after joining the local airline.

He stepped down, citing personal reasons, but there has been speculation about his real motive for leaving.

Mueller also recently received widespread backlash from retrenched staff of the airline, as well as various other parties, including unions, for saying that 6,000 jobs had to be slashed because many workers in the airline were unproductive and some were even found dozing off in hangars.

The German is a much sought after figure in the airline industry, where he is known as a turnaround specialist.

He revived Ireland's Aer Lingus when he served as the CEO between 2009 and 2015.

He was hired to nurse MAB, then known as Malaysia Airline System Berhad (MAS), following the double tragedies of MH370 and MH17.
