20 penalised for taking drugs

Kota Kinabalu: Twenty people were penalised by the Magistrate's Court here Wednesday for taking drugs.Mohd Faizal Bujang, Abdullah Mad Zakaria, Mohd Azil Abas, Wahab Shamsudin, Almando Ajim, Mohd Sahril Mohd Salin, Hailmie Romzie, Ruzaihan Lim, Fazly Mali and Abdul Malik Omar pleaded guilty before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun.

Victoriano Vigilia, Irwan Matsani, Syaiful Anuar, Samri Jimin, Stuart Alan, Frazer Yong, Ewan Nadus, Nurhakim Osman, Saidionari Nordin and Jasir Zulkifli also admitted to the offence.

The 20 were detained by police at separate locations here between March 8 and May 13.

The court ordered Fazli and Abdul Malik to pay a fine of RM1,500 or eight months' jail, while Hailmie, Syaiful, Samri and Stuart were fined RM1,300 or five months' jail.

The other 15 were handed five months' jail each.

The offence, under Section 15(1) of the of the Dangerous Drugs Act, provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to two years' jail, on conviction.

Meanwhile, another man, Nasil Kamil, was jailed seven months for having 0.07gm of syabu in a hotel here on March 18.

In another case, a 31-year-old woman, charged with cheating a man over the purported purchase of a Projek Perumahan Rakyat (PPR) unit, will know her fate on July 11.

Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus deferred the sentencing on Fairieza D'Souza Mohd Firdaus following an application by her counsel to prepare for her mitigation.

Fairieza changed her plea and admitted to cheating one Mc Cainez Ginda, 30, of RM1,400 as down-payment for the purchase of the house after she tricked him into believing that she is managing the sale of the PPR homes, causing him to give her the money.

She allegedly committed the offence on June 19, 2015 at the housing construction site in Meruntum.

Fairieza, who was represented by counsel Azhier Farhan Arisin, faces a jail term of between one and 10 years, and whipping and fine if convicted under Section 420 of the Penal Code. Inspectors Azaman Hamat and Isfandiar Jasdi prosecuted.
