Man granted bail after third bid

Kota Kinabalu: A 27-year-old man, charged with living off the earnings of a Filipina prostitute, will get to celebrate the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri with his family after his third attempt to secure bail was granted on Friday.Sessions Court Judge Indra Ayub released Muhammed Salleh on a bail of RM20,000 in two local sureties.However, Indra postponed Muhammed's trial to Aug 16, this year to give way to another case to be heard.ADVERTISEMENT Muhammed had, on March 22, this year, pleaded not guilty to committing the offence at 12.35am on March 12, this year at a hotel car park along Jalan Bundusan, Penampang.The offence, under Section 372A of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to 15 years and whipping or fine, on conviction.Earlier, counsel Luke Ressa Balang, who represented Muhammed, applied for bail, saying Muhammed wished to celebrate the Hari Raya with his family and that he did not mind any amount of bail. Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Khairuddin Idris had proposed a bail of RM4,000 in a local surety.In the same court, four Filipinos, one of them a woman, charged with causing the death of a fellow countryman, will go on trial on Sept 5-9 this year. The four are accused of committing culpable homicide not amounting to the murder of one Ali Talani between 11pm on March 23 and 2am on March 24, this year in front of a house in Kg Guruh-Guruh, Sipitang.
