USCCAKK commended for actively promoting culture

Kota Kinabalu: Special Tasks Minister Datuk Teo Chee Kang commended the United Sabah Chinese Communities Associations of Kota Kinabalu (USCCAKK) for actively promoting Chinese culture.During a courtesy call made by USCCAKK led by its newly-elected President Datuk Susan Wong, Teo expressed his confidence in Wong's leadership to lead the association to a new chapter.

"Chinese associations like USCCAKK always play an important role in connecting the Chinese communities with the government," he said.

Teo also accepted the USCCAKK's invitation to be their guest of honour at the association's installation ceremony cum 40th Anniversary celebration, scheduled to be held on Aug 7 at the KK Hakka Portview Palace Hall at 7pm.

Wong said the association's new line-up is not only a 'pro-social' team but 'pro-welfare'.

Sabah revenue hits RM6.97 billion: Hajiji says GRS State Government may see full term

Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Government continued its momentum in managing the economy in line with the commitment and spirit of the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) when it posted record high state revenue of RM6.973 billion last year.

She also expressed her gratitude to the State government led by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman for its contribution towards the wellbeing of the association by approving and endorsing the City Point Complex Project, the association's joint-venture with the Sabah United Chinese Chambers of Commerce and another private company.

The project will become a source of revenue for the association in order for it to conduct its social, welfare and educational programmes for its members as well as the Chinese community.

"We look forward to strengthening our welfare programmes and to maximise revenues so that our members can benefit more," she said.

USCCAKK is an organisation for 15 major local Chinese communities namely the Sabah Hokkien Association, Hakka Association, Teo Chew Association, Hainan Association, Hin Ann Association, Sabah Tai Poo Community Association, San Chiang Association, Northern Chinese Association, Ann Koai Association, Kwong Siew Association, The Lung Yen Association, West Coast Sze Yi Association and Eng Choon Association.

Wong also urged Teo who is also the minister in charge of Chinese community affairs to help USCCAKK obtain allocation for its annual event, the Unicorn, Dragon and Lion Dance Festival.

"The festival attracts tens of thousands of visitors and receives overwhelming response every year.

However, when I looked at its financial report, it depends solely on private individuals or the Chinese communities.

"We hope that the minister will help us apply for a government grant," she said.

Also present during the courtesy call were USCCAKK Deputy President Bong Chong Shui, Vice President Datuk Wong Hai Ming, Secretary Datuk Wong Yit Ming and Deputy Secretary Yee That Hian.
