OCM targets one gold, silver, bronze in Rio

Kuala Lumpur: The Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) is confident the Malaysian contingent can win one gold, silver and bronze medals in 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.OCM assistant secretary-general Datuk Sieh Kok Chi said the three medals could be delivered by three sports namely badminton, cycling and diving."I expect badminton (Datuk Lee Chong Wei), track cycling (Azizulhasni Awang) and diving (Pandelela Rinong), to deliver the gold, silver or bronze medals," he told reporters at a function by the boutique Kinslager who sponsors apparel for 20 television sports presenters, here Thursday.

Sieh said Malaysia's hopes of winning the first gold medal lies with national badminton ace Chong Wei as he is now at the top of his game."Chong Wei has the experience after losing twice. His motivation will be very strong should he meet Lin Dan in the final. The same goes for Azizul."Being in the 30s, they know the risks and challenges and know what to do," he added.

The handing over of Jalur Gemilang to the Malaysian contingent by Yang di-Pertuan Agong is expected to be held on July 28 at Istana Negara while the meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will be held on July 27.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

Thirty-two athletes have qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janiero which will take place from August 5 to 21.
