Cop shot dead following argument with his wife
Kota Kinabalu: A police corporal from Johor was found shot dead following a heated argument with his wife at their apartment in Cyber City, here, Thursday. The 31-year-old policeman, attached with the city police headquarters, was found lying in the living room of the premises with a gunshot wound to the chest.

State Criminal Investigation Department Chief Datuk Salehhudin Abdul Rahman said the man's 28-year-old wife, also from Johor, has been picked up to facilitate investigations for murder.

He said Penampang police received a call from civilians telling them of an explosion-like sound which came from the second floor of the building at about 9.40am. This prompted police to the scene where they found the man sprawled on the floor of the unit the door of which was open.

Initial investigations showed the incident could have stemmed from an argument between the man and his wife.

Salehhudin said the couple's three-year-old son and five-year-old daughter were also in the unit when the incident took place.

"A commotion ensued during the argument…anything can happen during a struggle, investigations are being done to ascertain how the shooting which involved a pistol took place," he said.

"The body has been sent for post mortem, while the woman, who did not sustain any injuries, has been brought in for questioning," he added. Also at the scene was City Police Chief ACP M. Chandra.

A neighbour, who declined to be named, said he was quite acquainted with the family since not many families from the peninsula stayed in the block, adding that they visited each other's open house during the Raya celebration.

"I sensed a bit of tension between the couple but did not think much of it because they are a young family and seemed jovial during their visit to my open house," he said.

Another neighbour said she did not hear any explosion because her dog was barking excessively when the incident took place.

"Loud sounds would cause my dog to bark, but I did not hear any loud explosion and initially thought someone had jumped off the building when I saw policemen in front of my block," she said.
