Semporna: Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) President Datuk Azih Muda (pic) said the time has come for the Government to stop hiring workers on Contract For Service (CFS).This is because, he said, there is an element of oppression on the CFS staff when they are not able to enjoy any hike in their salaries, no benefit of Employment Provident Fund (EPF) as well as other benefits and facilities. He said such matter caused worries to the CFS staff as they could not afford to buy their own houses although they have been working for 15 years, especially now that the cost of living standard has gone up.ADVERTISEMENT "The facilities and benefits that are not able to be enjoyed by these CFS staff is inappropriate and unfair as the Government is using their services."There are about 15,000 staff out of 60,000 government contract staff in the country that have the CFS status."Hence, we are proposing that the Government absorb them as Contract Of Service (COS) so that they could enjoy the benefits as government staff and should maintain only COS status for contract staff hired by the Government," he said.Azih said this to reporters during a meeting with the Cuepacs President and a briefing to improve the service schemes at a hall in Semporna District Council, here, Friday.ADVERTISEMENT Also present were Sabah Cuepacs President Maiman Muntial and District Officer Dr Chacho Bulah.Azih said considering and adopting the proposal would be a vital move for the Government to ensure the interests and needs of people working in the public sector are served.

In light of this, Azih said Cuepacs will also propose to the Government to be fair in restructuring the allowance rates without showing any differences in terms of states or region."It would be best for the Government to be fair and show no discrimination (in terms of the allowance rates) among the states in Malaysia," he said.
