Kota Kinabalu: Employers in the State who contribute to the Human Resource Development Fund (HRDF) are encouraged to take advantage of the funding facility to train their staff.HRDF Special Purpose Vehicle Officer Muhammad Ghazali Abdul Aziz Chief said there are 736 registered companies in the State and many of these companies have already taken advantage of the fund.

To date, companies in the State have contributed a total of RM85,594,275 to the HRDF.

"However, I think much more needs to be done in terms of training workers and enhancing their skills to the next level," he said, after officiating the HRDF 1Malaysia GRIP Programme CAL's graduation ceremony, Friday.

According to Ghazali, the 1Malaysia GRIP Programme has over 870 certification programmes under its scheme, attracting more than 19,000 participants nationwide. Nevertheless, the number is quite low in Sabah with only 260 participants taking part in the programme.

"The most popular courses are high-end computer skills, management skills and productivity enhancing skills such as programmes that are geared towards increasing productivity at workplaces," he said.

The 1Malaysia Globally Recognised Industry and Professional Certification or 1Malaysia GRIP Programme focuses on certification programmes that are recognised by industries in the country.

It aims to provide opportunity to employees to increase their skills by participating in specific fields that would enhance their career development and earn higher income, provide employers with skilled workforce that will enable them to explore business opportunities in a higher value chain in order to be continuously competitive in the global market and increase labour supply in the strategic and high impact areas to reduce country's dependency on external expertise.

Ghazali said currently, there are still funds available for use and HRDF is constantly engaging with employee associations so that the fund can be used more effectively.

"Currently, we only have a total of seven training providers in the State and we are hoping that more training providers will come forward to offer courses under the 1Malaysia Grip Programme," he said.

During the event, a total of 48 participants from 11 HRDF registered companies received their certificates after completing their courses at the CAL Computer Learning Centre.

The batch were trained in Human Resource courses as well as finance and accounting programme.

CAL Computer Learning Centre General Manager Karen Wong said the programme has enabled the trainees to elevate their core values.

"Many agreed that they will definitely bring back many high impact exchanges to allow them to accelerate further in their work performance apart from improving their KPI," she said.
