Plans afoot to hold Visit Penampang Year 2018

Kota Kinabalu: Plans are afoot to hold a Visit Penampang Year 2018 in an effort to bring the district to the fore of tourism growth in the State."The time has come for Penampang to be proactive in Sabah's tourism growth," said District Officer Luvita Koisun on Thursday. She said this following the first meeting of the Penampang Tourism Action Council chaired by her. The council was established as the central body to create programmes and administer the Visit Penampang Year in 2018.

Koisun said the district must be prepared for an all-out promotion of the tourism initiative, saying that the local communities and stakeholders in the tourism industry must benefit from the upcoming programmes. The meeting also saw the "The Kadazan Homeland" catchphrase approved as the tagline for the Visit Penampang Year 2018. Those in the meeting included Datuk John Ambrose (patron), Luvita Koisun (Chairperson), Benjamin Golimbi (Deputy Chairman), Carl Moosom (treasurer), Sasha Shamilee Mohd Asfar (Secretary), as well as Datuk Seri Dr Adalbert Kinson, Freddy Ekol (KDCA), Julinus Jeffrey Jimit (Sabah Tourism Board), Edmund Jokinin (Sabah Tourism Board), Joseph Jolis (Penampang Homestay), Evelyn Masudal (Penampang Homestay), Lydiana Saiddin (Monsopiad Cultural Village) and Inspector Ali Malik (Penampang Police) as exco members. The council, through the Kadazan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, is also seeking government grants for the purpose of infrastructure improvements in the district, as well as human capital enhancements and the setting up of the Visit Penampang Year secretariat.

Koisun has been credited with various campaigns including the Visit Penampang Year initiative, as well as the Clean and Beautiful Donggongon campaign and the proposed night Tamu previously.
