Bicycling carnival

Kota Kinabalu: Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Jainab Ahmad said the State Government has always supported efforts by City Hall on designing and implementing programmes and all forms of sports and community activities that involve youth and sports development in the city.Jainab, who stated this during the Kota Kinabalu City 16th anniversary bicycling carnival at Padang Merdeka, Saturday, said she was made to understand that the objective of this cycling carnival is to promote, encourage and develop sporting events in the city.

"The carnival aims to create a sports cultured society, healthy, active, competitive and athletic in response to the slogan ' Fit Malaysia '. Other than that, this cycling carnival also bring the message to other road users to share the road with cyclists.

"It also promotes a healthy lifestyle. In addition, it is my hope that this event can also promote unity and friendship between members of the community and various community leaders."

Jainab said also as a sign of support for youth and sports development in the city, the State Government has also implemented the Sunday family ride programme here.

"This programme is held on the Sunday of the first week of every month in the public park at Likas Bay from 5am to 9am with the aim to encourage families and communities to adopt a healthy lifestyle through cycling and sports."
