Two silvers, one bronze from the pool

Kuching: Only two silver and one bronze medals for the Sabah contingent from the pool on day one of the swimming event at the 18th Sukma Games here, Saturday.The women platform diving duo of Nur Ain Nadzmi and Nurfazriyanti Jali delivered the first silver in the morning after finishing second behind Sarawak's Elisha Rania and Kimberly Bong, and third place went to Lim Min and Nur Alyyajaz Azhar from Selangor.

Christan Tan Li Ling then came second in the final of the women 200m free style, losing to Selangor's Rosaland Pang for the silver with Ong Ming Fen from the Federal Territory in third.

The 19-year-old later competed in the final of the 50m breaststroke and took the bronze behind Selangor's duo of Caroline Chan and Fatin Amira Ah.

No medals was won from other sports on fifth day of the competition.

Squash which was targeting two gold medals saw their men's double pair of Duncan Lee/Lai Wen Kit bowing out in the second round to a Penang pair in a closely fought match.

However, the women's doubles pair of Natasha Chin and Lai Wen Li made it to the semifinal stage today.

Jessica Keng and Farez Izwan are also on course to win a medal for the contingent after both qualified for the quarterfinals in the men and women's singles event.

In lawn bowls, the men's fours qualified for the semifinal after beating Sarawak 12-11 in their final group match.

In tennis, Sabah ladies beat Kedah 2-1 while the men team lost 1-2 to Perlis.

Over in Miri, Sabah's men sepak takraw team lost 1-2 to Perak in their opening group match followed by another 1-2 defeat to Kelantan in the afternoon.
