Kuching: Sabah made it to the knockout stage at the 18th Sukma Games in Kuching after a 1-1 draw with Kedah in the final Group B match held at the State Stadium, Saturday.Needing only a draw to advance, while only a win will see their opponents through, Sabah were in driving seat within two minutes from the first whistle when Devid Ansarui scored with a looping header.

They had several opportunities to increase their lead but failed to find the targets and Kedah on the other hand also missed several chances.

In the 31st minute, the Kedah players' persistence finally paid off with a strike from Mohd Irwan Syazmin Wahab to make it 1-1. Devid had a chance to reclaim the lead for Sabah immediately after the restart but drilled his shot wide of the post from four yards.

Sabah played a more defensive game in the second half and despite the intense pressure from Kedah the Sabah back line stood firmed until the final whistle.

With the 1-1 draw, Sabah have top the group with better goal difference and qualified for the next round together with Pahang whom they drew 4-4 on Wednesday.
