Kota Kinabalu: The construction of Wisma Tiong Hua Sabah valued over RM300 million is expected to commence in mid-September. "The work was supposed to commence much earlier, but after the June 5 earthquake last year, the authorities such as City Hall imposed new regulations and requirements, and thus, we had no choice but to comply."It takes time to revise and re-submit the building plan for approval," said Arah Permai Sdn Bhd Executive Director Datuk Francis Goh. According to Goh, after a series of meetings with authorities including Mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai, plans for Wisma Tiong Hua are expected to obtain approval soon and will be equipped with seismic or quake-resistant elements. Goh said he expects to complete the work in 30 to 36 months once earthwork approval is obtained, which is much shorter than the 42-month period noted on the project agreement. The project is a joint venture between land owners, the Sabah United Chinese Chambers of Commerce (SUCCC) and United Sabah Chinese Communities Association of Kota Kinabalu (USCCAKK), and Arah Permai Sdn Bhd.
