Facebook post false, say police

Kota Kinabalu: The viral Facebook post alleging two women were battered before being robbed in their apartment in Telipok has proven to be false.According to City Police Chief ACP M. Chandra, the incident was between the victim and her former boyfriend.

"Police are currently looking for the suspect. No item was taken from the scene of the incident.

I hope the public will stop sharing the fake news. We will be calling in and take the necessary action against the person who spread the news because it had caused unnecessary anxiety among the people," he said.

In the post, a woman alleged that a man had entered her friend's apartment in UUC, Telipok which she shared with another woman on July 24.

The man was said to have threatened the victim with a machete before kicking and punching her after he failed to find any cash. The post also stated that the man tied the woman before going to the other room and assaulting the other woman.

The attack supposedly left both women with injuries and the man was said to have panicked and left the women.

Both women were said to have been sent to the nearby hospital for treatment.
