Man, 33, to go on trial for molesting niece

Kota Kinabalu: A 33-year-old local man charged with molesting his niece will go on trial on Oct 6 -7.Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun set the date on Wednesday for the man, who maintained his innocence to committing the offence on the 20-year-old woman at 1.30pm on May 17 this year in a house at Kg Meruntum, Putatan.

The man had on May 26 pleaded not guilty to the charge under Section 354 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to 10 years or with a fine or with whipping or with any two of such punishments if convicted.

In another case, two men charged with housebreaking and stealing properties worth RM80,000 will be tried on Aug 19.

Md Shawal Justin Abdullah, 34, and Taufik Syamsualam, 23, were accused of breaking into the Syarikat Kota Bumi Sdn Bhd in Lok Kawi at 7am on Oct 21, 2015 and stealing RM2,000 cash, three handphones, two laptops, a CCTV box, five scanner machines and a tool box.

The offence under Section 457 of the Penal Code provides for a jail term of 14 years on conviction.

Meanwhile, five men were sentenced for taking drugs.

Mohd Hanef Adam, Chong Chien Chea, Tony Tokan, Zam Zam Yunus and Md Narzinon Yakop admitted to committing the offence at separate locations here in May and June.

Tony was ordered to pay a fine of RM2,000 or six months' jail, Hanef and Chong were fined RM1,500 and RM1,400 each or six months' jail, while Zam Zam and Narzinon was jailed four months each. Inspector Azaman Hamat prosecuted.
