Fake car plate number: Man fined RM5,000

Kota Kinabalu: A man was ordered to pay a fine of RM5,000 or spend a month behind bars for displaying a fake registration number on his vehicle.Mohammad Alief Rahim pleaded guilty before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun to displaying the fake plate number at 11.25am on May 9 this year along Jalan Lintas, here.The offence under Section 108(3)(I) of the Road Transport Act carries a fine of RM5,000, or a jail term of up to a year, or both, on conviction.ADVERTISEMENT In the same court, a man and a woman were fined RM1,300 in default a month's jail for drink-driving.Junaidi Lasong and Isabella Tania Andau admitted to driving their vehicles while they were under the influence of alcohol along Jalan Lintas on Feb 7 this year.Meanwhile, in the Sessions Court, 15 foreigners, five of them women, were jailed four and five months each for entering the State illegally.The foreigners admitted before Judge Azreena Aziz to entering the State without valid documents.ADVERTISEMENT The men were also ordered given a stroke of the cane except for the young offenders.They were arrested in Papar town and the city by the police after they failed to produce their identification documents.

After serving their jail sentence, the court ordered them referred to the Immigration Department.Assistant Superintendent of Police Sabrina Jinius appeared for the prosecution.
