Kota Kinabalu: The plight of a woman suffering from third-stage stomach cancer and her bedridden son at their home at Kg Muhibbah, Menggatal, caught the attention of Api Api Assemblywoman Christina Liew and the Rotary Club of Likas Bay.Liew made a personal donation of RM2,000 and contributed provisions, toiletries, pampers and medicines.

Sabit is a single mother who is presently receiving chemotherapy from the hospital.

Her 26-year-old son, Sonny Mosirun had an accident in 2010 when he fell from the second floor of a building after work.

He suffered a fractured skull and subsequently had a stroke, causing him to be paralysed waist down.

"Since the mother and son are incapacitated, they depend on the kindness of the public and volunteers to assist them to make ends meet.

In fact, it is a local church that allows them to stay in the humble house they are occupying now," Liew said.

According to her, the sick woman has to walk quite a distance to the main road to take a bus to the hospital for regular treatment.

"During rainy days, the village road is muddy so it is hard for her to get to the highway from her house," she said.

Meanwhile, the Rotary Club of Likas Bay under the leadership of Maureen Lind sprang into action when they learned about the plight of Sabit and her son.

The club donated RM1,000 cash, a Queen-size mattress, plywood and timber to fix the ceiling in the house.

"We will provide manpower to carry out the job, and do the house wiring soon," Lind said.
