Two friends fined for hurting college student

Kuala Lumpur: Two friends were fined RM5,000 each, in default five months' jail, for causing hurt on a college student last month.Magistrate Husna Dzulkifly meted out the fine on despatch rider N. Uvarajan, 20, and G. Sittarasan, 20, a former restaurant employee.

The two men had pleaded guilty to a charge of voluntarily causing hurt on the student, J. Thennavan, 22, with a piece of wood in front of a Caltex pump station at Batu 5 ½ Jalan Puchong, Brickfields here at 3.45 am last June 17.

They were charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code, which provides an imprisonment for up to three years, or fine, or whipping, or any two of the punishments, upon conviction.

During mitigation, the two friends, who were unrepresented, said they had to support their respective families and also take care of their ailing mother.
