Filipino's murder trial adjourned

Kota Kinabalu: The High Court here adjourned the trial of a 28-year-old Filipino construction worker charged with killing his countryman to Aug 29-30 this year.Judicial Commissioner Ismail Brahim fixed the date for Arjie Serenio, who is accused of murdering one Roldan, 30, at a construction site in Kg Sunsuron, Tambunan at 4pm on Jan 24, 2014.

Arjie was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries the death sentence on conviction.

The court was informed that three more witnesses would be called during the continuation of trial.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Husna Abdul Halim conducted the prosecution while counsel Datu Baginda Datu Laja represented Arjie.

Arjie was ordered remanded further as the charge against him has no provision for bail.

Meanwhile, in the Magistrate's Court, a woman from China was charged with soliciting for the purpose of prostitution.

Wang Mengjiao pleaded not guilty to committing the offence at a hotel near here, recently.

The court set Aug 15 for case management and did not offer bail to Wang.
