Girl, 5, dies after fall from fourth floor in Beaufort

Kota Kinabalu: A five-year-old succumbed to her injuries after falling from the fourth floor of a premises in Beaufort on Wednesday. Police identified the Bisaya girl as Farishya Miasara Agus who was left unattended in the rented unit when the 12pm incident took place. Beaufort Police Chief DSP Azmir Abd.Razak said initial investigations showed the girl's parents were at work and had left the girl under the care of her 19-year-old brother.

The teenager left his sister alone in the unit to fetch another sibling from school at about noon. Preliminary investigations showed the girl was believed to have stood on a chair which she placed next to a grilled window and squeezed through the iron grill before plunging four floors to the ground. Early investigations found the girl's father worked at a shop in the lower ground of the premises, while her mother worked as a vendor at the market. The family has stayed at the rented unit for the past four years. The girl who was rushed to hospital succumbed to her injuries. The case has been classified as sudden death.
