Pairin's call shows he no longer has vision: RCA
Kota Kinabalu: The Rungus Cultural Association (RCA) of Sabah said the Huguan Siou's call to natives to simply cancel the term "Lain-Lain" when filling up forms and write down their respective and preferred races, shows Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan no longer has any vision for his people. Its President Jornah Mozihim (pic) said Pairin's call shows he wants Sabah natives to continue to be disorganised and disunited.

She said Pairin's statement also showed he wants the natives to remain as they have been for more than 50 years now.

"I would have expected our Huguan Siou to come forward and help resolve this issue. What we are seeing now is as though we are sailing in a ship with a captain that lets the ship sail aimlessly wherever the wind blows.

"Pairin seems reluctant to agree to the use of the term Momogun probably because it is not mooted by the KadazanDusun Cultural Association (KDCA), and the term Momogun alludes to a political party that is not led by him," said Jornah, who was formerly Matunggong assemblywoman, in a statement here Thursday.

On Thursday, Pairin was reported as saying that there should not be any quarrel among the people over what they want to be called either as Momogun or KadazanDusun or whatever race they think they are.

"I feel there is nothing to discuss. You want to put what your race is, you put down what your race is.

No need to talk, no need to quarrel over this. Years ago in the 1960s, some people said we are supposed to be called Kadazans.

"But there were people who did not accept. They wanted to continue to be called Dusuns and they want to call themselves as Dusuns. So, don't quarrel anymore, stop the discussion about this issue," said Pairin.

In a recent Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Rungus Cultural Association of Sabah, Jornah said it was unanimously agreed to use the term "Momogun" as the collective identity instead of the unending KD, KDM and KDMR acronym to refer to the Kadazan, Dusun, Murut and Rungus communities.

"The Rungus have no problem using the term "Momogun" as we have been called Momogun since time immemorial.

"As such, we in RCA Sabah firmly believe that our people of various ethnic groups would have been better united under one single category and that is Momogun, while still retaining our own ethnic identities.

I suggest we go forward and call ourselves Momogun," she said.
