Inmates receive Hari Raya 'gift' for good behaviour

MARANG: Thanks to good behaviour while serving time in jail, 20 prisoners received a long-awaited Hari Raya 'gift'.It was the gift of being able to meet their loved ones, under the Marang Prison's Jalinan Kasih Programme held yesterday, as part of efforts to motivate prison inmates and their families."For seven years I have awaited this moment, today I got to meet my beloved sister, I'm happy I could finally be able to hug her," said a prisoner who has been serving a sentence here for rape under Section 376 of the Penal Code.

Sudin (not his real name), 50, from Pahang said he was grateful to the prison authorities for giving him the chance to meet his family face to face."I have met my family here before, but only from behind a glass wall... I could not hug them, but today I can kiss, hug and talk with my sister face to face, only God knows how much I miss my family," he told Bernama here.The father of five said even though he had made a terrible mistake which was one of the bitter memories of his life, he was grateful he was still well received by all members of the family and they had always been a motivation for him to remain patient serving the jail time.Meanwhile, his sister Azlina (not her real name), 37, who lives in Johor Baharu, came all the way to Marang herself by bus just to meet her brother.

"I feel the Hari Raya celebration this year is more complete as I got to meet my brother...I've awaited this moment for a long time, I really miss joking around with him and having meals together," she said.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
