Kuching: Dethroned sprint king, Watson Nyambek has advised new sprint king, Khairul Hafiz Jantan to maintain his humility and to keep the momentum going.Watson, who was dubbed 'the Flying Dayak,' was pleased with the success of Khairul Hafiz and advised the 18-year-old to maintain high discipline and to remain humble.

"Khairul must stick to this attitude, maintain high discipline and to remain humble. This is important because all this glamour can be a problem for him.

"I feel happy and relieved to witness the record being broken. I am satisfied with his run as he is the first Malaysian sprinter to clock 10.1s," he said when met at Sarawak Stadium here, Friday.

Two days ago, Khairul Hafiz broke Watson's 18 year-old 100m national record (10:30s) after clocking 10.18s to win the gold medal at the Malaysia Games (Sukma).

He then broke Nazmizan Mohamad's 14 year-old 200m Sukma record (21.33s) after clocking 21.14s in the semi-finals of the event Thursday.

The Melaka lad then went on to clock 21.03s in the 200m final Friday to win the gold medal.

Miri-born Watson said Khairul Hafiz needs to maintain his fine performance to achieve more success in the future.

"Next year, we have the SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur. He must prove to Malaysians that he can do better.

Khairul can go far as he is still young.

He must leave Malaysia for training and competitions abroad to further improve his run," he added. – Bernama
