Kota Kinabalu: Three policemen were taken in for questioning by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) here, on Thursday, for allegedly asking for a bribe. MACC Sabah Director Datuk Saharom Nizam Abdul Manap said a 39-year-old Corporal, 27-year-old Lance Corporal and a 24-year-old Constable were picked up between 8pm and 8.30pm. He said they were brought in to facilitate investigations under Section 17( a ) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 for soliciting bribes following a report lodged by a 23-year-old sales assistant.

The woman claimed that she was stopped by three policemen at about 11.30am on July 4, behind the Centre Point shopping complex for document inspection. One of the men allegedly asked for RM300 for her release after her documents were found to be fake.
The woman was said to have received RM300 from her elder sister to buy goods for the recent Hari Raya. "She came to our office the same day to inform us of the incident and a team was sent to investigate and identify those involved," he said.

In April this year, a police inspector who allegedly received a bribe of RM3,000 was also detained by the MACC in Tawau.

The same month, two police personnel attached to the Narcotics Unit in Penampang were also reported to have been remanded for alleged corruption by the MACC, also in Tawau.

The duo, a 31-year-old inspector and the other a 37-year-old corporal allegedly received RM9,800.
