Kota Kinabalu: Kimberly Vung bested 11 other local beauties to be crowned Miss Sabah Tourism 2016, here, Friday. The 21-year-old Sino-native from Kota Marudu won the judges' hearts with her poise, talent and eloquence to walk away with a crown, cash prize of RM3,000 and sponsored goodies.

"I'm excited and thankful for winning the title. I have joined many pageants and so far, I think Miss Sabah Tourism is the best that I have joined.

"I made full use of all the experiences that I had gathered for this pageant. I am really into the tourism industry and this is exactly what I want," she said.

According to her, among the pageants that she had joined previously were Miss Crocker Range 2015 and DBKK Unduk Ngadau Kaamatan 2015.

"Miss Sabah Tourism is exciting as we, the contestants, gained a lot from it, in terms of grooming, public speaking and catwalk, among others.

"The hardest part of the pageant is the pre-judging session as I think I did not do well because I was nervous… and that is why I did not expect to win the title."

Kimberly said she had just completed her studies at a local college, majoring in tourism management, and she planned to continue her studies in business entrepreneurship next year.

"I love to travel, read books and I am also interested in filmmaking and I hope I can produce my own films in future," she said, adding that she will also brush up her Mandarin by taking up classes.

First and second runner-up titles were held by Alexsa Chin Chiaw Yinn and Nikki Lavender De Souza, respectively.

Alexsa brought home a crown and RM2,000, while Nikki won a crown and RM1,000. Both also received vouchers and goodies from sponsors.

All top three winners for Miss Sabah Tourism 2016 will represent the State in the national-level competition scheduled to be held in Kuala Lumpur on Aug 30.

Meanwhile, Sabah Tourism Board's (STB) Chairman Datuk Joniston Bangkuai said the pageant played a role to select the best and suitable candidate to be the next tourism ambassador for the State to promote Sabah's tourism, culture, destinations and hospitality nationally and globally.

The main prizes were presented by Joniston, Miss Sabah Tourism 2016 State Director Weena Marcus and Miss Sabah Tourism 2015 Janet Fabian.
