Felcra Sabah to have own building
Kota Kinabalu: A grand new office building and no more RM150 payment for health insurance from next year onwards. These are just two pieces of good news for Federal Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority (Felcra) Berhad staff in Sabah.

Amid the challenging commodity market, the company is investing on employees' comfort in return for their focus and commitment to continuously improve its business.

"I give my assurance that Felcra Sabah will have its own office building next year. We have identified two to three pieces of land," said Felcra Berhad Chairman Datuk Bung Moktar Radin, Monday.

The proposed building will be built in Kota Kinabalu expectedly next year but he did not disclose its cost.

"It will be a seven to eight storey building," he said, adding that the land will cost between RM3 to RM4 million.

Bung also announced that the company had decided to absorb all staff health insurance nationwide, amounting to RM10 million.

"From next year, they will no longer have to pay for this health insurance. The company will take care of that, he said.

He said Felcra employs 3,500 staff throughout the country who are required to pay the insurance as part of employment condition.

And there was more good news coming from the Kinabatangan Member of Parliament.

"For Felcra Sabah, we hope to expand our land for rubber planting and palm oil. We will also open up plantations in Banggi Island through cooperation with the State Government to plant pineapples, coconuts and bananas," he disclosed.

Bung said the project involving a land size of 3,800 hectares will commence upon getting clearance from the government.

He said that all the three crop projects have been found to be most suitable for the island condition and will open up at least 2,000 job opportunities for the local residents.

"This adds values to the quality of their lives. We're also planning to set up downstream activities," he said.

Felcra is currently developing 16,000 hectares in Sabah, including assets.

Bung further announced that the company is also investing on human capital development having now acquired a building in Sandakan as its training centre.

"All training programmes under Felcra Sabah will be held at this training centre. We're now doing some touching up works on the building and can start operating any time after that," he said.

Earlier, Bung attended a Hari Raya Aidli Fitri celebration organised by the company which, for the first time ever, saw the attendance of all its general managers nationwide, including from various regions in the State.

"It's really special this year because we want to boost the spirit of our staff so that they will be more focused on ensuring that the company continues to generate income," said Bung.

Also present were Felcra Sabah General Manager Hassan Hilmie Mohd Taib and Felcra Chief Executive Officer Zulkarnain Mohd Eusope.
