Kota Kinabalu: Except for some minor hitches in terms of lack of requirements on the part of applicants, the 8-day Philippine Embassy consular services which kicked-off at Wisma Wanita here on Thursday went smoothly.The consular team spearheaded by Consul Alvin Malasig reminded all applicants to bring along with them the required supporting documents when seek the consular services.

"I am reminding all our countrymen to check and ensure that they have with them all the required supporting documents before proceeding to Wisma Wanita located along Mile 3.5 Tuaran Road. By doing so, applicants will save time and cut unnecessary expenses, "Alvin said.

He said an applicant applying for new Philippine passport is required to submit to the embassy his/her birth certificate (born in the Philippines) or Malaysian birth certificate, or an affidavit certified by Ketua Kampung that the applicant is a Filipino (for applicants with no birth certificate).

He said the fee for new passport was RM 255 and application forms are available at the centre for free.

For renewal of passport, applicants are required to submit photocopy of passport (first and last page), Pos Laju envelope and RM 255 processing fee. Lost passport applications are charged RM382.50 (for green and MRP) and RM637.50 (e-passport) only.

"All passports will be processed in Kuala Lumpur within one month after which the document will be mailed to the respective applicants via Pos Laju," he said.

He said applicants should ensure that their mailing addresses are correctly stated in the application form to avoid unnecessary delays or problems.

Alvin said it is also advisable for Filipinos in Sabah to open the Philippine Embassy Facebook from time to time to update themselves on the latest developments of the embassy or read the Daily Express for embassy public announcements.

The consular team would continue to provide services to Filipinos here daily (except Sunday) from 9am to 5pm until August 12.

"I would like to thank those who came to the centre during the first day of the mission for their cooperation extended to my team in ensure orderly and smooth exercise...Similar appreciation goes to the management of Wisma Wanita and personnel from Rela," Alvin said.

Meanwhile, the majority of the applicants expressed satisfaction over the manner in which the exercise was conducted.

Unlike the previous exercises, they said embassy staff were seen giving special considerations to pregnant women, elderly and those accompanied with children.

"Tag numbers were released to the first 130 applicants for the day and the consular officials also continued to issue tag numbers to the crowd for the following day's quota... The method was good and acceptable to everybody, "they said.
