Bank Negara launches Educator's Manual on Shariah standards

Kuala Lumpur: Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) has launched the Educator's Manual on Shariah and Practical Operational Standards, which will be used as teaching materials for students. The first manual, which focuses on 'Murabahah' contract, includes case studies on the Islamic finance industry. "The manual is a pioneering effort. Translating the Shariah standards and operational requirements into a user-friendly format for adoption in the academic syllabus of our local universities will go a long way in enhancing the lslamic finance syllabus by educational establishment. "It will be an important learning tool for many of our future students," BNM Governor Datuk Muhammad Ibrahim said before launching the Educator's Manual on Shariah Standard Murabahah here Monday. ADVERTISEMENT Muhammad said the launch not only coincided with his 100 days in office, but also marked another important milestone in BNM's endeavour towards enhancing the quality of education, particularly on lslamic finance education in Malaysia.The manual is developed by BNM in collaboration with the International Shari'ah Research Academy for lslamic Finance (ISRA) and the Islamic Banking and Finance Institute Malaysia (IBFIM). A panel of authors, comprising 20 subject matter experts from various fields, including regulators, Shariah scholars, industry practitioners and senior lecturers from selected universities, have contributed to its content. Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia and International Islamic University Malaysia have agreed to be the pilot strategic partners in adopting the manual.Of 14 Shariah standards that developed by BNM, Murabahah is the first series of the manual launched, while that of other contracts will be developed gradually. – Bernama
