Woman killed in Lahad Datu mishap

Lahad Datu: A 29-year-old woman was killed when the Toyota Land Cruiser she was driving, skidded and rammed into a palm tree at Km 27 Lahad Datu-Sandakan, Sunday.The victim, identified as Sabturina Muhammad, died at the scene due to head injuries while her two children aged nine and 11 years, including another passenger, were injured.

An 11-month-old baby who was also in the vehicle was unhurt.

According to District Police Chief ACP Hamzah Ahmad, the vehicle was heading to Sandakan from Tawau when the 5pm accident happened.

"Initial investigation showed that the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to skid into the opposite direction and ram into the tree.

The driver was killed on the spot," he said.

He said all the injured victims were later sent to the hospital for treatment.
