Tawau: Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) has received several reports of electrocution in Sabah involving children. Its Deputy General Manager (Distribution) Ridwan Saham, who revealed this, said the victims were found living in squatter areas due to illegal connection of power supply and they were not among registered consumers such as what happened in Sandakan last month.

He said a programme entitled "SESB Corporate Social Responsibility Nurturing The Young Minds" has been carried out in five primary schools in Sabah to educate children on safety of electricity in simple forms that they can understand.

"Based on our observation in previous programmes, the response among the pupils was very positive as this time, we took a different approach and a laid back programme compared to past programmes that focused on adults.

"This programme will be carried out from time to time with the cooperation of the Education Ministry and schools as the contents include introduction on SESB, electricity safety and how to save electricity use at homes," he said.

Ridwan said this to reporters after opening the programme in Excellence Cluster Schools (SKKK) SK Bombalai, here.

A total of 50 SESB personnel and officers involved in the programme that was participated by 500 students, including teachers and representatives of Parents and Teachers Association of the school.

SK Bombalai was the fifth school in Sabah for this year involved in the programme after SK Mutiara (Kota Kinabalu), St Monica (Sandakan), St Agnes (Kota Kinabalu) and St. Anne (Labuan).

He said the pupils became the SESB's target group for the programme as they will be the agency's future consumers and furthermore, they can easily understand and absorb the information given to them.

Also present were SESB South Zone Manager Sabaruddin Akibe and SESB Media and Communication Department Senior Manager Esther Masulah.
