House break-in: Man jailed 24 months

Kota Kinabalu: A 30-year-old man was sentenced to 24 months' jail by the Magistrate's Court here Wednesday for burglary.Hajibal Abdul Karim admitted to breaking into a house at Taman Penampang in Penampang belonging to one Loh Chee Cheong at 2.30pm on April 30, 2013 and stealing RM3,200, two gold bangles, two gold earrings, two gold rings and two handphones, all worth RM10,000.

Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus was told by the prosecution that Hajibal, who went to the place with an accomplice, gained entry through a sliding window.

Hajibal's accomplice acted as a lookout while Hajibal ransacked the bedroom and reading room before they carted the loot away.

Hajibal spent the money on syabu.

In another case, a 53-year-old Filipina, Hatijah Sabar, was jailed 10 months after she pleaded guilty to selling 63 uncensored films in DVDs.

Hatijah was arrested by police at 8.05pm on Aug 7 at the Inanam night market after she was seen selling the DVDs to the public.

The offence under Section 18(4)(a) of the Film Censorship Act 2002 provides for a fine of between RM5,000 and RM30,000 or up to three years' jail, or both, if found guilty.

Hatijah was ordered referred to the Immigration Department after serving her sentence.

Meanwhile, a 27-year-old man was fined a total of RM4,000 after he admitted to two counts of drug-related offences.

Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun ordered Voo Ken Kiong to pay a fine of RM2,500 or 12 months' jail for having 0.89gm of Nimetazepam at 12.10am on March 22 in Inanam.

Voo was also fined RM1,500 or six months' jail for taking drugs on the same day.

Inspectors Azaman Hamat and P.Nathan prosecuted.
