Putatan: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said whether Putatan district will see an extra seat if there is a delineation exercise is up to the Election Commission."Myself and Yahya, we have no right to have a say on the matter. However, as a party leader and Sabah Umno Liaison Chairman I can see that the district is big and its population is growing.

"So if there is a delineation then it is acceptable," he said, after officiating at the Umno Putatan delegates meeting at Soluxe Hotel, Saturday. He said with the support of all members of the party they can defend the present status of the party's strength in the State and, perhaps, even grow stronger in their struggle which can see a brighter future for their descendants through Umno and Barisan Nasional.

Musa also said the emergence of new political parties is one of the many challenges that Umno faced and there is a need to remind the people which party had an established track record.

"If other groups or individuals want to set up another new party it is up to them, what is important in the State is we know and have proof of which party can best look after the people needs. Which party has a good track record.

For us it is Umno and Barisan Nasional. We need to remind the people which party can bring about a brighter future for the State," he said.

"Not necessarily a new party can bring a better well being to the people. For example in Selangor, (one can ask) is PKR there better than Umno, also for DAP in Penang, is it better than Umno.

"We feel that the states under Barisan Nasional are better, more developed and orderly than under other parties which is something we need to remind the people of.

"It is not necessarily the case that a change of party or leaders can lead to better things for the people but may lead to many problems such as in some countries in the Middle East.

"We must act maturely and think rationally what is best for us and the people. This is what is being done in the Putatan division and the State," he said.

He urged State Umno branch leaders to focus on grassroots members to ensure it is strong in facing the upcoming elections.

"As such in the case of the Putatan division they need to ensure that the grassroots (support) is strong and to work hard and cooperate with one another so that during elections they will be united and in that way all the seats in this constituency can be won. This is one example where here in Sabah there is consensus and integration between leaders and members including our grassroots members.

"We must also approach the grassroots members and know what are their problems which is why leaders whether MPs or Assemblymen should always go down to the ground to know their grassroots members. When there is a good relationship then definitely there won't be any problems come election time."

Musa said Umno Putatan was a strong division thanks to its leader Datuk Seri Yahya Hussin and its members who are united and cooperate, adding that party members must also be loyal to the party and leaders especially the party President.

"The president is an institution that needs to be defended for if the president is strong then the party is strong and vice versa. So there must be this element of assistance between each other. This is what is being carried out not only in Putatan but statewide."
