Kota Kinabalu: Sabahans should be sensible in their approach as addressing the anomalies in the implementation of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 and all the other related documents requires time and care.United Pasok Momogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (Upko) Acting President Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau said the ultimate aim should be preserving the integrity of the Federation of Malaysia for the future generation.

"This is in fact what Putrajaya has in mind when it decided to form a technical committee which has been tasked to do, among other things, matters relating to the position of Sabah and Sarawak within Malaysia.

"As we all wait for the committee to roll up its sleeves, let us all look beyond the MA63 and focus on real policy issues affecting Sabah and Malaysia as a whole," he said.

Tangau reminded the people that as the nation marches toward becoming a developed nation with high income status, there are other pressing priorities that need to be looked into seriously.

He added that the people must not lose focus and risk being left behind in the globalised and competitive world.

"We need to provide our people, especially our young Sabahans, with jobs and opportunities to grow and to compete beyond our shores, in the international market.

"We need to train more young Sabahans to be innovative, as well as information and communication technology savvy and entrepreneurially capable so that they can contribute more to the development of the country and Sabah," he said.

Geopolitically speaking, Tangau said Sabah is sandwiched by countries endowed with natural resources and population strength.

There is a need to get our priority right so that we can play a more meaningful role in the current challenging regional scenario, he said.

"Upko had and will continue to champion the MA63. And beyond. As Upko chief and a member of the Federal Cabinet, I have at my disposal a unique avenue to help ensure this nation achieves its target as aspired by our founding leaders," he said.
