Kota Kinabalu: Umno Kota Marudu wants the Langkon state seat, which was abolished in 1999, to be reinstated following the approval for the creation of 13 new state seats by the State Assembly recently.Kota Marudu Umno Chief Datuk Wetrom Bahanda @ Mohd Fikri said the reinstatement of the Langkon seat will go a long way in serving the people better.

"Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Hj Aman should be praised for seeing the need to add more state seats due to the growing population. His far-sightedness will go a long way in taking care of the needs of the rakyat better.

"With more wakil rakyat, efforts to bring development to the people will be speeded up, which is in line with Musa's initiatives to ensure no one is left out of the state's rapid development," he said.

Wetrom said the two state seats under the Kota Marudu Parliamentary seat are Matunggong and Tandek.

He said Matunggong has 20,005 registered voters and Tandek has 22,264 registered voters in the last election.

Wetrom said he is confident that the Election Commission (EC) will seriously take into consideration the reinstatement of the Langkon seat.

"The number of voters for the coming general elections is certainly going to be more than the last and the reinstatement of Langkon will certainly be welcomed by all, especially those in Kota Marudu.

"Kota Marudu is a vast district covering 1,917 sq km and has a population of no less than 75,000 people, with the villages and townships spread across," he said.

The Kota Marudu parliamentary seat and Tandek are held by PBS while Matunggong was won by Keadilan after beating the PBS candidate. Its assemblyman has since left Keadilan to be BN-friendly.

Wetrom is hopeful that if Langkon is reinstated, Umno will be given the chance to contest.

"Kota Marudu has since its inception being working hand in hand with other BN component parties to ensure victories for BN without making demands to contest, although we have more than 21,000 loyal members. But we leave it to the wisdom of the State BN leadership led by Musa, who is Umno Sabah Liaison Chief, to decide who is the best candidate to contest should the Langkon seat be reinstated.

"Umno Kota Marudu has served the people well although it does not have any YB in the district.

Musa knows best what is good for the people and he has been to Kota Marudu many times to see to the needs of the people," he said.

Wetrom said Umno Kota Marudu has being consistent in its full support for Musa as well as Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
