Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Rhinos failed to grab full points when they were held 2-2 by Kuala Lumpur in their Premier League match at the Likas Stadium on Tuesday. The home team with Dedi Kusnandar as stand-in skipper following the one match suspension of Alto Linus opted to play Rahman Shah Marajeh up front and Randy Baruh started as right back.

They began well and had more of the ball possession and created several shooting opportunities but it was the visitors who found the net first.

They opened the scoring with their import player Konte Modibo in the 17th minute.

Centre back Igor Cerino then showed his teammates how to score when he equalised with a close range shot after receiving a headed pass from Stuart Wark in the 26th minute.

Sabah continued to press for another goal after the breakthrough and their efforts finally paid off with three minutes remaining in the first half when the Kuala Lumpur custodian failed to make a clean catch and gifted the ever alert Igor a simple task of putting the ball into the net.

Sabah continued to dominate in the second half but failed to create any clear-cut chances apart from Stuart who had a goal-bound shot from the edge of the box headed clear by a Kuala Lumpur defender.

Then against the run of play, Zhafri Yahya with the Sabah defence sitting back unleashed a dipping shot from 18 yards out that flew past the outstretched hand of Rozaimie Rohim for the equaliser in the 80th minute.

With the draw Sabah collected 19 points from 19 matches with five wins, four draws and 10 losses and remain in 9th position.

Their next match is away against DRB Hicom at the Stadium Proton on September 9.
