Long jail term plus rotan if guilty

Kota Kinabalu: JONIUS ONDIE was charged on July 25 with unemployed Imam Wahyudin Karjono, 20, in Petaling Jaya, with attempting to murder eight people in the pub by hurling a hand grenade and also having in his possession an explosive. The incident which took place on June 28 at the Movida restaurant located in Puchong IOI Boulevard injured eight people. On the attempted murder rap they were charged under Section 307 (1) of the Penal Code which provides for up to 30 years' jail.

For possession of explosives they were charged under Section 8 of the Firearms Act (Increased Penalties) 1971 which carries a jail term of up to 14 years and a minimum six strokes of the cane.Both pleaded guilty to the charges at the Sessions Court which set Sept 21 for re-mention pending their social report being prepared.On Aug 2, Jonius, was charged at the Magistrate's Court in Klang with another count of providing support involving the use of explosives with intent to threaten the public.He was accused of knowingly giving support to the militant act involving the use of the explosives and it was done with intent to threaten the public in Malaysia via his Telegram app at No 33, Jalan Sg Condong 3, Bandar Armada Putra, Pulau Indah, Klang between March 25 and July 1, 2016.

He was charged under Section 130J(1) (b) of the Penal Code which provides for life imprisonment or up to 30 years' jail or a fine.No plea was recorded and no bail was offered. His case will be re-mentioned on Sept 7 pending transfer the case to the High Court.
