Sandakan: Retired government servants have been urged to join the Sabah Government Pensioners Association (PPKS) to fight for their common interests. Its president Datuk Wilfred Lingham said of the 51,000 pensioners from the government sector, including Federal and State, only 3,400 were PPKS members.

"We have targeted the membership to reach 5,100 or approximately 10 per cent of the pensioners by April next year," said Lingham at the 'Grow old gracefully with Dignity' workshop held at Harbour Square here Tuesday.

"Hopefully, a better result will be yielded, with a strong membership in the near future," said Lingham, who is concerned about the survival of the low income members during this economically difficult period.

"We will raise the situation and negotiate with the government to raise the yearly increment," said Lingham.

He said those who wish to join the association should contact Philip Mosinoh of the Sandakan office at 019-833-9439 or 088-211282 Likas, Kota Kinabalu.

Speakers for the event included PPKS adviser, Tan Sri Simon Sipaun, Pilis Malim and Dr. Henry Ong.
