Schemes for youths to generate income

Kota Kinabalu: Various training programmes had been conducted to increase the potential of youth in various skills, said Permanent Secretary to the Youth and Sports Ministry, Awang Damit Awang Anak.Awang Damit said, such programmes provide opportunities for youth to generate income and at the same time cater to the job market.

"Aside from turning it into a career, skills possessed by youth can be a platform for them to venture into entrepreneurship.

"As such, I urge youth to grab the opportunity to explore the potential of entrepreneurship which can boost their own socio-economic status," he said when officiating at the certificate presentation ceremony for skills and entrepreneurship courses organised by AR Training Centre at Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP), here, on Tuesday.

AR Training Centre Director Alicia Lenson said 32 participants had completed a one-month course on welding.

According to her, participants were also provided with welding tools as part of the assistance for them to start up their businesses.

"The welding course is part of the courses offered by us to boost the potentials of youth.

"Among the other training provided by the agency is sewing and scaffolding welding," she said.
