Kuala Lumpur: For the third consecutive year, the Malaysian National News Agency has been given the mandate to organise the 'National Day Message' which will be delivered by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on August 30. Bernama general manager Datuk Zulkefli Salleh said unlike previous years, this year's event would be held on a larger scale at the Merdeka hall, Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) here.

Previously, it was held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre and the Malaysia Tourism Centre.

"This is the third time and we bring this event to a larger venue, namely the Merdeka hall, PWTC, a place that can accommodate 3,000 people," he said during an interview on the 'Selamat Pagi Malaysia' talk show broadcast by RTM Wednesday.

He said leaders and public figures would be invited to attend the event which would start from 9pm.

Besides being broadcast live on local television as well as radio stations including Bernama News Channel (BNC) and Bernama Radio, the event would also be streamed live via the Bernama web, Zulkefli added.

He said the event would start with singing of the national anthem 'Negaraku', video clip display as well as recitation of prayers by renowned speaker Datuk Kazim Elias.

"I would like to thank Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak and ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Sharifah Zarah Syed Ahmad for once again giving the mandate to Bernama to become the main organiser and assisted by other agencies and departments," he said.

Elaborating, Zulkefli said the National Day Message was something that should be appreciated with an open heart and mind, punctuated with gratitude for the blessings of independence enjoyed over the years.

"I hope that all people will spend some time on that day and listen with an open mind, assess and count the many blessings bestowed and listen to the plans of the main trustee (the prime minister) for the foreseeable future," he said.

The National Day Message was among the programmes being drawn up for this year's National Day celebration besides MERDEKA@community; launch of the National Month and flying of the Jalur Gemilang; Prayers for Malaysia; One Heart, One Soul Cycling; Merdeka Carnival; National Day 2016 Parade and Malaysia Day 2016 celebration.

Last year's 'Sehati, Sejiwa' (One Heart, One Soul) theme has been retained for this year's celebration of National Day. – Bernama
